Cell Shift
Cell Shift is a first-person puzzle game set in a large, industrial laboratory. You are a test subject: infused with different powers and abilities. The thick smoke fills your lungs and you can feel your blood heat up as the power rushes through you. Each test chamber poses a different challenge to overcome and your need for survival pushes you forward.

Cell Shift was developed in two weeks for a game jam with the theme "It's Magic". We wanted to give the player abilities that felt like magic, but were not presented in the traditional sense. The game focuses on three main game mechanics that the player uses to solve puzzles. Players would be able to use a stasis ability to stop objects, a portal ability to teleport around each level and, a scout ability to get a better understanding of a level than they could from the ground.
During development, I focused on game play design and UX. This included making sure that the powers were intuitive, player movement felt good especially during transitions between powers, and that UI made it easy to navigate between powers. I worked closely with our level designer to create environments that complemented the game play mechanics and focused on solving puzzles that highlighted the extent of each ability.

Players are able to do three different actions to navigate puzzles:

-
Place portals to help you navigate complex barriers
-
Produce a specter image of yourself to scout ahead and interact with otherwise unreachable elements
-
Make time stand still and freeze objects to use to your advantage
